Demon’s Descent

In this compelling supernatural horror, inspired by a true story set in Amherst, Nova Scotia in the late 1870’s, ESTHER COX, plain looking yet flirtatious, is on a mission to snag BOB MCNEAL, a handsome and coy man about town, who has women after him all the time. Bob, the man of her dreams, takes an excited Esther on a buggy ride into the country and unexpectedly rapes her.

Terrified and dejected, Esther returns home and shortly thereafter mysterious manifestations consume her. Her older sisters, JANE COX and OLIVE TEED, her brother JOHN COX and her brothers-in-law DAN and WILLIAM TEED, are overwhelmed as they experience the bizarre and horrific noises, demonstrations and appearances that rock Esther and the Teed household. Their pleas for help bring FATHER TEMPLE, the local priest, and DOCTOR CARITTE, the family physician, onto the scene.

Father Temple, who is challenged by his own demons of a dying brother and an abandoned family, struggles to drive out the evil spirit that has taken hold of Esther, but with little success. Then Doctor Caritte, besieged and petrified by this spirit, and clearly out of his element, backs away and contacts DOCTOR TUPPER, the expert on the disease of insanity.

In the meantime, out of desperation to help Esther, the family contacts a NATIVE HEALER who has a highly respected and longstanding reputation for successfully purging evil spirits. But as the native healer tackles this potent malevolent force, he realizes that it is too formidable and fierce and apologetically departs, leaving Esther in a state of desperation, fearing that she will soon be destroyed.

Doctor Tupper arrives on the scene as the last hope for Esther and the Teed family. He is totally convinced that this evil force is a clear sign of Esther’s decline into insanity which he believes will just respond to medical treatment that can only be described as barbaric.

However Doctor Tupper’s home life is unraveling. His wife MAUREEN leaves the marriage because she is fed up being a handmaiden to her husband whose only preoccupation is his patients. Wrestling with the guilt of a failed relationship and of overindulgence in alcohol, Doctor Tupper, confident that a deteriorating Esther is in the clutches of insanity, prepares to meet the evil one.

The story is an edge-of-your-seat, roller-coaster ride that will shock, horrify and mesmerize with a spellbinding ending.
